Dahi Bhalla is our favourite tangy dish. Ever since we were kids, this was something we used to have especially in July when it was the monsoon season. Normally the bhallas are fried in this dish, but we wanted to make a healthier version of it. We tried baking them and they turned out so nice that we thought we would share with you. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
RECIPE
INGREDIENTS:
BHALLA
- 250g Moong dal / Green lentils
- 1/2 tsp Green chilli paste
- 1/2 tsp Ginger paste
- 1 tsp Cumin seed powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp Baking powder
DAHI
- 500g Yoghurt
- 1 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper
- 1 tsp Cumin seed powder
TAMARIND SAUCE
- 250g Tamarind paste
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup Coconut sugar
- 1 tbsp Roasted cumin seed powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
DIRECTIONS:
BALLA
- Soak moong dal overnight
- In the morning, wash it (this will peel the top layer of the lentils) and then blend it and make a paste.
- Mix all the other ingredients.
- Keep the batter for 10 minutes
- Put the baking sheet on the baking tray and spray coconut oil on top.
- Mix the batter again and use a spoon to put small blobs of the batter on the baking tray.
- Brush the batter balls with a little oil on top.
- Bake them on 180 degree for 15-20 minutes.
- Take them out when they turn brown and let them cool.
DAHI / Yoghurt
- Wisk the yoghurt and add the other ingredients.
- Soak the Bhallas in boiling hot water for a minute and take them out.
- Squeeze the water out of them.
- Put them in Dahi right after.
TAMARIND SAUCE
- Mix all the ingredients together and boil until they are thick.
- Let it cool.
Serve Dahi bhalla with a dash of tamarind sauce on top and Enjoy!
